About Me
Matthew D. Brown was born in Visalia, California. He graduated High school from Mount Whitney High School and then attended the College of the Sequoias. In 1999 he joined the United States Marine Corps, and served from 1999 to 2008. During his service Matt deployed several times in support of Combat operations in Iraq, Africa, and several other countries. In 2008, at the rank of Staff Sergeant he separated from Active Duty with an Honorable Discharge.
In 2008 he completed a training course called Troops to Roughnecks and started in the oil field with
Union Drilling out of Cresson, Texas. He spent the next seven years working on drilling rigs. This path took him to the Marcelles Shale in NE Pennsylvania, where he met his wife, Emily. In 2010 he suffered a near-fatal accident on a drilling rig. After a major surgery to repair his knee and 12 months of physical therapy he returned to work in the oil field. During this recovery time he began pursuing a life long dream of learning to work with horses. His wife Emily bought him his first horse, Misty Blue. In 2014 he moved back to Texas with his wife. Shortly after he met his friend and Mentor, Aaron England. Matt apprenticed with Aaron for just over two years learning about horses.
In 2019 He and his family moved back to Pennsylvania where he began his own business working with
horses. After two years in Pennsylvania an opportunity arose to return to Texas. He jumped at the
chance to move back to Texas.
Now Matt runs his own horsemanship business. He does clinics, works with problem horses, starts
colts and gives lessons. He runs a free horsemanship night at his church, The Lone Star Cowboy Church of Hunt County, located in Quinlan, Texas. He also provides horsemanship lessons for Daisy Day Rehabilitation, a nonprofit in Greenville Texas that provides assistance for disabled adults. Matt and his wife, Emily, share in the responsibility of their six horses, (including the minis), Ruger, Jake, Derringer, Tobi, Shadow and Clyde.
